4th Annual Medical Symposium on Human Trafficking Keynote Presentation: Supporting Male Survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation

February 2, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Free

This event is the keynote presentation of the 4th Annual Medical Symposium on Human Trafficking being hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University and ImPACT Virginia. The presentation will begin with a virtual screening of BOYS, a documentary about the sex trafficking of minor males across the United States, followed by a facilitated training by Nathan Earl, Principal at Giant Slayer Consulting, and lived experience educator.

Mr. Earl’s training follows the SOAR framework for equipping public health professionals to support survivors of commercialized violence. Four modules will be presented, including typologies and models experienced by males, etiology and risk, recruitment, indicators and coercion, identification and engagement, and response. A particular focus of the presentation is on the intersectionality between substance dependency and the exploitation of male-identifying youth.

Giant Slayer provides training and technical assistance to support organizational efforts to prevent violence against boys and men. Learn more at www.giantslayer.us.

This training is underwritten by Kristi House’s Bridges to Futures program funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime, grant #2018-VT-BX-0010. Learn more about Kristi House at www.kristihouse.org.
