Healed Victims...

  • Provided services to more than 1,500 child-victims and their families located in every zip code of Miami-Dade County with the exception of one (Fisher Island). Evidence-based treatment provided for child trauma from sexual abuse, physical abuse, online abuse, and sex trafficking.
  • Expanded services in Homestead with the opening of a dedicated office, marking the sixth location for easier access to Kristi House services.
  • Tapped by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide therapy for unaccompanied and separated minors being detained in shelters in Miami.
  • Launched a family engagement initiative to ensure families who come to us — often frightened, ashamed and traumatized — understand and receive the full benefit of Kristi House services and support.
  • Marked 12 years of Project GOLD program for sex trafficked adolescent girls, having provided services for more than 500 girls overcoming commercial sexual exploitation or at high risk.

Expanded Our Expertise...

  • Conducted yearlong learning collaborative in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for our staff and 60 South Florida therapists and caseworkers from 11 agencies as part of our federal SAMHSA grant dedicated to increasing capacity community-wide to treat child trauma.
  • Developed and delivered Hurricane Trauma and Teen Dating educational presentations.
  • Began pilot project to introduce a Facility Dog at Kristi House for children overcoming trauma as part of a partnership under a Children’s Trust Innovation grant.
  • Moved to an automated, streamlined Measurement-Based Care electronic system to replace lengthy paper assessments and provide immediate feedback to therapists and clients.

Spread Awareness and Prevention...

  • Introduced the Child Safety Matters® program in several Title 1 Miami-Dade County Public Schools to help elementary school children keep themselves safe from abuse, bullying, cyber dangers and trafficking, with evaluation findings showing significant learning on the part of the children.
  • Added another full-time Education & Outreach Specialist to staff resulting in a total of 304 education classes and training programs provided to 8,433 adults and children in 531 hours of instruction.

Shared Our Expertise...

  • Co-authored three research articles published in peer-reviewed journals: Child Abuse & Neglect, Journal of Child Abuse and Journal of Gay & Lesbian Social Services, bringing the total to five articles published on our ground-breaking work in our Project GOLD program.
  • Presented at national and statewide conferences on Kristi House client outcomes and education programs, working with our university research partners at Florida International University and University of Miami.
  • Generated 14 Spanish-language print news articles, Spanish radio and television news segments as part of our Child Safety Champions prevention campaign supported by Florida Blue Foundation targeting southern-most Miami-Dade County.

Sustained Our Work...

  • Awarded a three-year U.S. Department of Justice grant for Bridges to the Future, a program we specially designed for Project GOLD girls overcoming trafficking to provide them educational support, jobs training, career planning and internships.
  • Continued trend of steadily growing private funding support with a 31% increase in private giving over the last two years.
  • Created full-time volunteer coordinator position for enhanced community outreach and services to kids and families.
  • Demonstrated the highest standards of financial stewardship with the 17th consecutive annual audit with no findings.
