While child sexual abuse has been Kristi House’s specialty since founding, its mental health unit has the proven treatment interventions for many types of childhood trauma. Dedicated to protocols with proven results, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) provides the foundation for most interventions at Kristi House.
Along with childhood sexual abuse, Kristi House has long operated its Pathways program for children with problematic sexual behavior. Geared for school-age children up to age 12, Pathways is a group program for kids as well as groups for parents/caregivers. Developed out of the University of Oklahoma, this intervention helps thwart inappropriate behaviors in kids and teaches parents how they can support their child with boundaries and rules.
Kristi House began its program for physical abuse last year, treating the entire family when there is conflict or aggression. Trained by the intervention’s developer, Kristi House clinicians use Alternative for Families Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT), an effective intervention for dealing with anger, behavior and other family issues.
It was a decade ago when Kristi House began its program for commercially sexually exploited children. The program, called Project GOLD, operates a Drop-In Center for girls who have been involved in sex trafficking or are at risk. An intervention that treats both the trauma associated with exploitation, as well as substance abuse that often accompanies girls caught in abusive situations, is offered. Risk Reduction through Family Therapy (RRFT) treats both trauma and substance abuse and involves the entire family.
Kristi House’s new Universal Referral Form was created to streamline the process of getting children into treatment by the trauma specialists at Kristi House. Its program staff of 25 therapists and family advocates are dedicated to helping children and families recover from the following types of trauma as quickly as possible:
Child Sexual Abuse
Child Sex Trafficking
Physical Abuse/Family Conflict
Problematic Sexual Behavior
Substance Abuse + Trauma
