Kristi House is fortunate to have a number of its most ardent supporters involved since its inception. It was back in 1995, and the nonprofit was just getting started when Dr. Andrea L. Loeb heeded the call to service. High (and unmet) demand for sexual abuse therapy meant we needed dedicated therapists. Loeb was one of our firsts. At the time, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center treating child sexual abuse victims. Her expertise, personal commitment and integrity were not only hallmarks of her tenure, but would come to set the standard of how we operate today.
Through the years, Loeb has been a constant advocate for child abuse prevention and children’s mental health services, within and outside the organization. She was appointed the first clinical director at Kristi House — marking another first for Loeb. In this capacity, she was responsible for conducting psychological evaluations, crisis intervention, managing clinical processes and programs and hiring and managing staff.
Her passion for healing, justice and community involvement is unwavering. Driven in part by the ubiquity of the problem, and the personal stories of abuse shared by childhood friends, Loeb explains, “Providing mental health treatment to victims of all types of trauma is my life’s work.”
She would later meld her passion with her entrepreneurial spirit and launched South Miami Psychology Group, with her business partner Dr. Summer Sullivan. Located in Pinecrest, the successful private practice offers individual and family therapy with children, adolescents and adults. Still, she remains a force at Kristi House, where she has been on the board for eight years. She currently serves as our secretary of the board.
Loeb was born in Buffalo, NY, but raised in Miami. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology and earned her doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. Loeb has been married to her husband, David, for almost 25 years and has three children: Shelby, Laura and Alec.
Her inspiring work at Kristi House, at South Miami Psychology Group and in the community has helped hundreds to recover and rebuild their lives. We look forward to our continued collaboration. Thank you, Dr. Loeb!
